Change in Minimum Balance Required to Cover Living Expenses in Australia
International students coming to Australia and lodging for visa are required to show $24,505 for living expenses, one year of tuition fees, return airfare to and from Australia to the student’s home country, and overseas student health cover.
Change in Work Hours
From July 2023, student visa holders will be allowed to work no more than 48 hours a fortnight while studying, which equates to 24 hours per week.
Change in English Language Requirement
On December 11th the Australian Government announced that from early 2024, English language testing requirements for student visa English language requirements will increase from 5.5 to 6.0 and the minimum temporary graduate visa will increase from 6.0 to 6.5.
Indian Educational Degrees to be Recognised in Australia
The “Australia-India education qualification recognition mechanism” was announced by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on March 8, 2023. According to the new agreement, degrees earned in Australia will now be accepted in India, while degrees earned in India will be accepted in Australia. This change will not, however, affect professional qualifications.
Temporary Graduate Visa
Indian graduates will still be able to remain on a Temporary Graduate Visa for the following periods, despite the recent changes to student visa policies:
- Two years for a bachelor’s degree
- Three years after the completion of a master’s degree
- Four years for the completion of a PhD.
